GREENLEAF

Warm and sunny, 80s (F), prey is running well.

UPDATE - 6/17/18 Since it appears those who needed time to get their character situated from our last site have all settled in we are opening Lies in the Low a few days early. Once again welcome to members joining us from previous sites and those completely new. We do have a site chat box, but are much more active on our discord so if you haven’t already please feel free to join us there. Any questions can be directed to our ask staff channel. At this time we will be opening auditions for high ranks, but only four at a time until the ranks are filled. Currently SC leader, RC leader, ThunderClan medicine cat, and WindClan medicine cat are open for audition. You can find more information on how to audition as well as the audition form in our high rank thread

UPDATE - 6/13/18 Welcome to Lies and the Low to members joining us from our last site, and to any new ones we might have gained along the way. Lies in the Low is currently on a soft opening and during this time high rank auditions are not open. They will open once things have settled down and we begin advertising to keep things fair for new members joining us after the soft opening. Please be sure to re-read over all posted information as you will find a few things have changed, and we’ve also added a nifty little perk system you can read about here under the perks tab. Reminder that you can only have two bios posted in the wip section at any given time, and must wait until those are finished and accepted before posting more to help staff keep some level of control during what we expect will be a busy few days. Points and character slots do not move over from the last site with you, but for the first week and for your first four characters you do not need to re-purchase any shop items for your characters. If you plan on re-using a face from one of your characters on DitM you get first dibs (barring it being a face you need someone else’s permission for), but after we begin advertising it’s business as usual and there are no holds. If you have any other questions or concerns please post in the ask-staff channel on our discord here.

A few moons ago, Galestar might have been tense about the event of an approaching gathering. He had always found it exceedingly hard to follow behind the footsteps of a leader he did not trust to give proper information at a gathering. But now that he was at WindClan's helm, he had looked forward to gatherings. It turns out they were a good place for him to passively despise RiverClan, while tallying up the shortcomings of the other clans in the valley against the problems WindClan had faced in the last moon. Though he generally did not enjoy dispensing information about the not so pleasant things that had befallen his clan over the moon that had passed since all the clans had last gathered. Galestar was still convinced that WindClan was faring well despite the winter-brushed gauntness that plagued them all -a gift from having the smallest territory in the valley during a typical chilling winter.

The blue-furred tom spent the majority of his day as if he would not be leading a group of cats to the dried up riverbed for what would no doubt be an eventful gathering. Galestar had plenty to talk about, plenty to jab RiverClan in the side with. He had done a very good job of hiding his simmering hate for WindClan's neighbor, but he could not forget the dreadful secret he'd been exposed to during his life ceremony and it only seemed to grow worse every time he sat and watched as Duckstar led her group of cats into the clearing.

With just enough time to make it to the dried up riverbed before the sun fully set, Galestar rounded up the group of warriors he wanted to take to the gathering, giving those with apprentices the chance to bring their young charges if they so wanted. Gale had almost stopped by to ask if Rookstorm was going, but he had bypassed the chance to slyly torment her in favor of being at the gathering place first. "Let's get going," he said somewhat happily to the group of gathered cats. "We've not been late for the last few gatherings, and I don't want to start a reputation of being tardy!' His tone did not betray the way he felt inside as he practically bounced up onto his toes and led his warriors from the camp, trusting those he left behind to keep a watch over those staying.

They made good time cutting across their territory and Gale was careful to keep them walking the boundaries of the other territories on their way. Unsurprisingly, they all arrived to the gathering place before the other clans. Gale purred proudly at himself as they fanned out into the clearing. "Ah!" he exclaimed. "Early. As usual. Let's just hope we're not kept waiting for too long," he said with a sniff and a nervous glance up to the clear skies. "It's going to be a cold night."

The white tom looked upon the clearing where the clans would arrive, the sunset bringing out the silver tabby lines in the tom's fur, his tail ticking in agitation; kneading the ground slightly as he awaited for Galestar's siginal. He wondered if any of Roseheart's friends would be among the RiverClanners at the Gathering. It was a slim chance, but unlike Galestar, Cloudstorm didn't mind their water loving neighbors. Not that he'd get his pelt wet to jump into the rivers with them, he wouldn't be dry for hours if he did, still, he tolerated them.

Perhaps that was due to the fact that his kit could very well be in the Clan still. Cloudstorm hoped they wouldn't be at the Gathering, the warrior had asked to go simply because these events could be somewhat entertaining while waiting for the rest of the clans to arrive. Maybe an apprentice would slip up and tell him their clan's secrets, that was fun just thinking about it. The 'secrets' to an apprentice, however, were probably not as valuable as the secrets a warrior knew, however.

Maybe an apprentice ate some prey before giving it to the rest of their Clan, it was against the code, but what kit hadn't done that? The youngsters were always rebellious and will continue to be so. That'd certainly be a laugh to hear.

Cloudstorm was quickly torn out of his fantasies at Galestar's words. He quickly thrusted himself onto his feet as the WindClan warriors quickly spilled into the clearing. Cloudstorm was quick, but he was still a few paces behind Galestar, he wondered if StarClan was nipping at his feet to get the leader to run faster. However, once Cloudstorm's paws touching the clearing's floor, his mind drifted back to the water loving Clan. The warrior held his head high like the arrogant tom that he was, wondering how Duckstar became leader. For a cat with an odd waddle, she managed to become a leader and one that StarClan approved of. Got to give her some points for that. Cloudstorm moved around with deliberate, elegant steps, sitting among one group to join in the conversations that were happening.

This was his first gathering – usually his mentor would attend instead of him, but this time he was going as well. While he acknowledged that he needed the experience, and should probably meet the other medicine cats sometime, he was still terrified. What if Archer found an opening? No, no he wouldn’t allow that. He couldn’t. Only a select few knew of his condition, those few being Galestar, his mentor, and Thrushpaw. If he was exposed to a large group of cats? Well, there was no question, he’d be stripped of his rank within the moon.As he sat, Archer was strangely quiet for once. Perhaps his ‘companion’ had gone to a sleep-like state in his brain? Great StarClan, he hoped so. The less he heard from Archer the better, especially tonight. Ears flicking up, Aspenpaw watched as Galestar approached the group, however he hadn’t given the signal yet. So Aspenpaw was forced to wait, with his ears erect and his tail flicking back and forth slowly. How unfair waiting was, as the prize one sought could never seem to come fast enough.Ah, there it was. The signal to leave the camp and make their way to the Gathering. A cold wind seemed to blow right through Aspenpaw as he stood, and followed the group of cats. He was quick enough that he could stay surrounded by them, but not fast enough that he was at the head of the group. It took all his energy to keep this up, as he was unused to much physical activity besides walking around looking for herbs, and then walking around camp seeing if anyone needed tending to.As they arrived, it seemed as if WindClan was the first to do so. A fact Galestar seemed quite pleased with. Unsure of what to do and where to go, Aspenpaw awkwardly padded around the space that seemed far too empty, his ears now low and his eyes now huge. Hopefully someone would direct him on what to do... because he surely had no clue.tag: gathering. words: 367.plaidatheart

blackbird singing in the dead of nightDahliaheart had never been particularly fond of gatherings, then again never opposed to them. Well, perhaps that was a lie. First impressions were difficult, and she felt that pressure, being surrounded be endless pawfuls of cats she didn't know. The worst thing was that, not knowing the cats, she couldn't necessarily predict their reactions which meant her own actions could be rendered ineffective. Because of this, she tended to stay as far away from cats as she could at the gathering, though unfortunately for her, many cats gravitated to her handsome appearance. Even then, she would flash her smiles at them, speak maybe a word or two, and keep to herself. She didn't allow herself to get worked up over the matter as WindClan headed off to the gathering place. Instead, she wondered what sort of happenings there would be, and the events other clans would tell of. WindClan, she knew, would likely be touching on the recent, mysterious death of Caribounose, and it seemed that RiverClan had begun to pick up in activity as of recent, so perhaps they were finally removing themselves from the abandoned territory. Dahliaheart had no expectations there, she found that the RiverClan cats had lingered longer than expected in the forest. They might as well just stay there for the leafbare, right? Surely the shelter of trees would be warmer than a territory full of ice, but she didn't try to understand the minds of the fish-eaters.They were first to arrive in the riverbed, oddly enough, and Dahliaheart quickly found a place off to the side where she could settle, almost blending in with her surroundings as darkness overcame the clearing. She was aware of Fennelclaw, the cottonbrain, trying to sit by her, but he was ushered away by all-knowing Crowflight. She watched them through narrowed eyes, looking for all the world as though she'd never seen anything so amusing. As WindClan settled down and waited for others to arrive, Dahliaheart noticed an uncomfortable presence that was lurking about. She didn't have to turn her head to know it was Minkfur, though she cast her gaze to him regardless. No other clans had even arrived yet, and he already looked mildly uncomfortable. With a soft sigh, she called to him. "Minkfur? You can come sit by me, if you like." It was an odd thing for her to offer, but the last thing they needed was for him to be retching out of anxiety, at least that's what she told herself as she scooted over, as if to create an invisible seat for him despite the majority of the clearing being empty.439 words | hi minkuthanks melissa

Unease that she hadn't shared with anyone, even Lilyleaf. She was probably paranoid, right? Paranoid and worried. For her clan, for her clanmates, for the future of her clan as a whole. The terrifying thought of exile had loomed over Duckstar since before she had even become deputy - what if the same fate befell her clan, too? With the group of cats behind her, Duckstar led them as quickly as her wobbly gait allowed her to. She hated pushing herself to go so quickly; they had plenty of time to reach the gathering and it was doubtful they would be last, but she knew the other clans would gossip if the waddling leader waddled in last every time. She had to show them she was just as capable as the other leaders, if not better. When they arrived, they were not the first. WindClan scent met her maw and she prickled uneasily. Holding her head high and pushing away the thoughts of unease, she strode in as elegantly as she could, her clan behind her. She paid little mind to those around her - she was a leader, she had little time for idle chitchat - but she did nod respectfully to the cats who greeted her. Better to come off as amiable than as a snooty pile of foxdung."Galestar." Duckstar said curtly, settling a good taillength away from the blue furred tom. She did not turn to regard him; for the most part, her dark gaze settled on the conversing cats, watching her clan carefully. She had instructed them not to tell the other clans that they had returned home. They needed to use it to their advantage, after all. There was no telling what the other leaders would do if she was always so open and honest. She needed to hold her cards close to her chest, even if that meant meaning pushing Tempeststar and Sparrowstar away. As for Galestar, she preferred him as far, far away from her and her clan as possible.created by sloth for use by cake only

Minkfur, likely due to being shoved into attention as Heronpaw's mentor, had been selected to go to the gathering. Not wanting to let Heronpaw down, as it would have been unlikely the tom got to go if his mentor didn't, Minkfur had agreed. He immediately regretted it of course, and spent the day with Heronpaw out on the moors running the apprentice ragged; they'd done a series of sprinting drills to help build agility, endurance, and reaction time -- all of which was a breeze for the fleet-footed brown cat (and had done little to soothe his nerves) but was likely exhausting for the new apprentice.

They'd returned to camp with time enough to eat, rest and groom, all of which Minkfur did with extreme haste before he situated himself in a dark corner of camp and twitched nervously as he waited for Galestar to assemble them. He'd been to gatherings before as an apprentice, but had avoided them almost religiously since. He liked to observe cats, and even found them interesting to watch, but gatherings were too much for him; there were too many cats and drama -- or even fights -- were too easily sparked.

He only moved from his spot when Gale called, leading the party of cats from camp. Minkfur floated on the edge of the group, eyes alert and nearly unblinking as they stared off into the space ahead. WindClan didn't have long to go until he dried riverbed, and the former island, came into view under the light of the full moon. He was wordless the entire way, and one of the first cats to split off from the group and disappear into the fringes once they arrived. He wasn't interested in creating bonds or friends from outside of WindClan, not when he struggled so much to make friends in WindClan, and would be perfectly content if the shadows swallowed him whole.

Someone was watching him though, aware of his history with nervousness, and invited him to come sit down by them. Minkfur, after his initial surprise that someone had addressed him, fought the urge to move quickly in the opposite direction. The cat was a clan mate, and even one he recognized and accepted as generally OK; Dahliaheart wasn't obtusely social, chatty or loud and may very well help keep the skittish tom-cat calm. He considered her offer for a moment longer before he turned and sat down a few paces away, whiskers twitching and ears whirling nervously, hoping she didn't expect much in the way of conversation.

He sat like that for only a beat, promptly moving closer (but not so much they touched) when he saw RiverClan cats spill into the riverbed. Hopefully being near Dahliaheart would discourage others from talking to him. "Th-t-thank you D-d-ahliaheart." He whispered quietly, green eyes staring down at his paws.

Nighthawk tore absently at the ground underneath him while he waited for Galestar to be ready to leave with the rest of the party attending the Gathering. Perhaps even more than Gale he wanted to be the first ones to arrive; Nighthawk knew all too well that WindClan looked gaunt, and while his coat kept others from seeing that in him like they might in some of his Clanmates, he wanted the advantage of being first to avoid the other Clans watching them stream in. This wasn't his first Gathering as deputy, so he was quite used to it by now, thinking in a different way than he might've when he was just any old warrior.

Nighthawk was also a little mixed on the report Galestar would be making; Caribounose had been killed by a rogue Nighthawk remembered from the last battle with BloodClan, though he wasn't sure Galestar would decide to share that particular piece of information. There would be reports about RiverClan, though, and Nighthawk couldn't say he wasn't intensely interested to see that play out. For the most part, he wasn't particularly hateful towards any of the other Clans, but he didn't like them either, and leafbare brought that out in him even more. WindClan's territory was the smallest in the valley, and they suffered for it, while RiverClan had its territory and ThunderClan's old land. The fish eaters weren't supposed to hunt on that land, but Nighthawk had seen it happen before and he knew all too well there was no guarantee they would know if RiverClan was sneaking some every now and again.

Galestar led the party out of camp, making a beeline for the island. Nighthawk took the rear of the line, entering the Gathering place last and watching WindClan fan out before him, first ones here, before he went to take his place near Galestar and eventually the other leaders. On the way, he noticed Dahliaheart and Minkfur sitting near each other, but wasn't careful enough to avoid coming up close behind and to the side of nervous little Minkfur. His attention was too occupied with RiverClan's arrival, their cats just barely beginning to spill into the clearing. A quick apology over his shoulder got Nighthawk out of his Clanmates' way, and he took his seat in time to watch Duckstar approach, her odd walk once again making him wonder how StarClan could possibly approve a cat like that as leader.

Perhaps he was asking for trouble, or perhaps he just wanted to show off how well off SkyClan was in their future, but Tempeststar had listed off a whole slew of apprentices for the attendees of the nights gathering. In reality, most of the apprentices were his children or nieces/nephews, and he was trying to avoid hard-feelings, jealousy, and any potential fights that would stem from some being picked over the others while trying his best to balance the personalities by mixing quieter, tamer apprentices with the louder more-likely-to-cause-trouble ones in hopes they would cancel each other out; should that fail, he trusted his warriors to squelch any disasters before they grew too problematic.

For the rest of the evening, until it was time to leave, he had laid on the ledge beside his den with Turtlespots as they discussed what he would be saying tonight while idly grooming one another and keeping a watchful eye on their kits below. They had even threatened to wash their kits that would be going if they would not do it themselves, but in the end even Webpaw had resigned herself to grooming her pelt on her own. He couldn't help but give a small smirk as he recalled Webpaw's request some days prior, sitting a top SkyClan's turtle guest as she asked him for permission to keep it. As ridiculous and unpractical as the notion was, he had to admit that SkyClan having a turtle, especially one as large as a leatherback, to ride into battle (as Webpaw had argued) would be comical.

As the sun sunk and the moon began to rise, Tempeststar stood before the clan. "Those attending please meet at the front of the camp. Those remaining behind please see that the camp is looked after." He kept it brief, jumping down from the rock and waiting for the gathering party to gathering before heading out into the night. Their walk, compared to any other clan, took the longest, but Tempeststar kept the pace brisk to ward off the night's chill. He slowed only when the riverbed came into view, holding his tail high as he spoke lowly to his clan. "Best behaviors everyone. Those caught making trouble will be punished." The warning was routine, they'd all heard it before and would likely hear it again, but it had to be said; tensions were a fickle thing and you never knew when they'd come to a head.

With that said, the SkyClan leader led his clan into the clearing, saying a quick good-bye to Turtlespots and his children before joining RiverClan and WindClan's leader on the high rock. He took a seat on the other side of Duckstar, fur thick and inflated against the wind. He remembered Duckstar's concerns with WindClan's leader, Galestar, but to date he had heard nothing more on the matter. He considered them both with a curious, friendly gaze and nodded his hello's. Suspected tensions aside, Tempeststar was expecting the night to be interesting; all medicine cats had received an omen and met recently to riddle it out; those results would have to be addressed tonight, and if the medicine cats were right, it could potentially mean bringing ThunderClan back to the valley.

At last, it was time for the gathering. It wasn't one Turtlespots was particularly looking forward to, but she knew well enough there were things that simply had to be addressed sooner rather than later. Tempeststar fully planned on openly addressing the scents found on their territory belonging to trespassers, and it was something Turtlespots supported wholeheartedly. She had been ready to fight him on that note, but was pleased to find he didn't need convincing. Now, they would simply have to wait until it was time to leave.

When the time came, Tempeststar called the gathering party together, many of their kits a part of the group. They always had to be watched carefully, as they tended to be a rowdy bunch, but it was good for them to experience. All along the way, she kept a close eye on her clanmates, making sure they didn't fall behind. It wasn't a hard journey to make, though the chill made for quite the cold travel. Luckily, most of them had thick fur to keep them warm, even Turtlespots whose fluff couldn't compare to the rest of her family's.

When they arrived, two other clans were there before them-- RiverClan and WindClan. There was an uneasy buzz in the clearing that made Turtlespots' skin itch. She stayed close to Tempeststar, halting at the bottom of the highrock and taking a seat there. She nodded respectfully to Lightningfoot and Nighthawk, both of whom had also taken their respective seats. As impolite as it may have seemed, Turtlespots wasn't in the mood for much discussion. She contented herself with watching her kits mingle and waiting for the gathering to start.

And I won't let you drown, when the water's pulling you in.I'll keep fighting, I'll keep fighting.Volepaw should have stuck by Batwhisker while he waited for them to leave for the gathering, and he did. At least until he saw Buzzardpaw migrating slowly away from Gracklestep and toward him. Then, he simply couldn't help himself. He ended up at Buzzardpaw's side, and he ended up grooming his dear friend. Because, let's face it, Buzzardpaw was a mess. Definitely not suited for a gathering, with fur sticking up here and there and his fur wind-ruffled. Sure, it would probably get all disorderly again pretty quickly, but it soothed Volepaw's nerves to have something to focus on, and it was nice to "help" his friend look presentable. While he certainly didn't want to be late, arriving first seemed well . . . early. If he were a leader, he would rather arrive second, like RiverClan, or third, like SkyClan. First didn't seem to actually be on time, but he wasn't going to try to get Galestar to see that. It would be rude, to try to correct how Galestar thought of time. This was not Volepaw's first gathering, but his last had been a few moons ago, when he had been a younger apprentice. He noted, now, how the journey was less taxing on him. Clearly his endurance had increased during his training. He was pleased to notice this. He tried not to make sour faces at the unpleasant medley of scents that only grew more unpleasant when SkyClan was added to the mix- but he wasn't entirely successful. He was a bit sensitive to these things, remember? Funny scents, icky substances. Stuff like that.

Well, maybe her apprentice ceremony had been slightly more exciting, but still! She felt like she could hover above the ground if she tried hard enough, there was so much energy buzzing within her. She was bouncing on her toes and moving every which way as she waited for them to depart for the gathering. She could hardly believe she had been allowed to come to this gathering, and she could hardly wait to leave! When they left, she bounded eagerly along with the rest of her Clanmates. She kept up quite well until about halfway through the trip. Then she was panting and feeling rather tired, but not so tired that she couldn't find some determination and push forward stubbornly. It was a lengthy trip to the gathering place, and they were going rather quickly. She had been out and about, getting her tour of the territory and such, but Dacebelly usually had them moving at a slower pace. Since she was still a young apprentice, she didn't have much endurance to speak of.She might be a bit worn out by the time they arrived, but once the pace slowed and she was caught up in the hustle and bustle of meeting new cats from WindClan, and then SkyClan, and seeing other Clans' high ranks in person for the first time, she felt like she had never been tired before in her entire life. She darted from place to place in the crowd, chattering with anybody whose attention she could catch and paying close attention to whatever they had to say. Dear StarClan, this was so exciting! Why didn't they do this every day? Clan tensions and mutual problems were obviously the farthest things from her mind right now.GATHERING307 WORDSzoooom zooom xxx

It wasn’t as if he’d just been adjusting to the position of leader, had to choose a new Deputy, seen the passing of one of their brightest upcoming warriors, and dealt with the fallout of a blizzard, all in what seemed like the shortest moon ever. When Mothcloud had approached him to ask who would be going to the Gathering in two days’ time, though, Sparrow had blinked blankly at the medicine cat for a few long, awkward moments. There had just been too much to think on lately, too much that sat in the front of his mind. Not only that, but the thought of seeing the other Clan leaders – all of whom he’d only met a few times – was daunting without Toadstone’s reassuring presence at his back. The first Gathering had been a quiet one for Sparrow, thankfully, but he couldn’t help but feel slightly awkward presenting himself to older and more experienced cats, touting himself as their equal without Toadstone present to back him up.His position had been accepted and celebrated by StarClan, of course, and no cat – not even the other ‘stars – could make less of him. And so he’d rounded up the chosen bunch, leading them swiftly through the twilight until they neared the riverbed. “Speak not of the kittypet,” he cautioned the rest of his Clan, calling the halt just before they entered. “Nothing has been decided for certain regarding her presence in ShadowClan, and please, please –“ he slid his piercing blue gaze over the assembled cats, “- do not overexaggerate the sickness’ impact upon us. Acknowledge Toadstone’s passing, and the difficulty that brought on, but do not let them think us any weaker because of it.” His eyes stealing over to a few cats in particular, he lifted his chin in a touch of pride. “And make sure that all know of Badgercry’s noble sacrifice, and that he went to StarClan a warrior. He deserves the honor.”With that he turned away again, waving his tail in the customary signal to enter the gathering space. A faint sigh of relief huffed from the tom’s lungs at what he saw; while the last to arrive, the others still milled about (and clearly hadn't been waiting long), with Galestar’s slim shape and Tempeststar’s bulk apparent immediately, and Duckstar’s tabby fur visible from the distance. Mustering up all of his dignity, Sparrowstar slipped briskly toward the other leaders, nodding a greeting to each in turn. “Tempeststar, Galestar, Duckstar,” his voice was low and calm, and – happily – didn’t crack or waver in the least – “I trust your Clans are doing well?” Genial as his voice was, the young tom couldn’t help but notice Duckstar’s vague unease, and her forced distance from Galestar. Sparrow wondered at that with a prickle of suspicion, hesitating for a fraction of a heartbeat before casually slipping in to claim the space between them, bridging the gap. As the youngest of the Leaders, he'd let the meeting be started in earnest by one of the others.you did not break meI’m still fighting for peacethanks!

It's not the kind of place to find your place among the living.Mothcloud was taking a break from being bothered by various things. Because the Gathering was coming upon them fast, and it was supposed to be a bright and cheerful event. Or, at least, they were supposed to try and make it that way if they could. He preferred bright and cheerful gatherings over dark, tension filled ones. He couldn't be certain how this one was going to turn out- not with what he knew was going to be brought up at it. He could only treat it as a pleasing event up until that point, and then he could brace himself. They arrived last. Mothcloud could tell by the SkyClan, WindClan and RiverClan scents carried to them on the wind while they paused just outside the gathering place. He nodded his head at Sparrowstar's cautions, though of course Sparrowstar would know he would follow his orders carefully. He had been truly fascinated by the kittypet, and would have liked to share gossip about her odd fur with the other medicine cats, but he could wait until after a decision could be made. He understood Sparrowstar's feelings toward her presence. While did find her absolutely amazing, he knew she probably didn't stand a chance in a Clan and he wouldn't be battling whatever decision Sparrowstar made. He would not ask that a cat stay with them who would be in danger by doing so, simply because he found the oddity of her pelt interesting. He stayed at Sparrowstar's heels as they entered, but they soon went separate ways. He waved his tail in temporary farewell and flashed his young leader an encouraging smile. Gatherings as a full medicine cat were not new to him, but Sparrowstar had only attended one gathering as ShadowClan's leader. He went off toward where the other medicine cats were gathering, looking forward to some lighthearted conversation.♥ thanks lauz

Everyday I'm alive in the cityShe's a fire that lives by the sun.Sedgeclaw was lucky he was more than healed up enough to attend that moon's gathering. He didn't like missing gatherings. Sure, he could always hear about the most recent news from his Clanmates, but that didn't really live up to the feeling of sitting among a crowd made up of cats from the various Clans and listening to it in person. Besides, he liked to be a presence there. He knew he was at least decently impressive, being one of the older, more experienced warriors of RiverClan. He was, no doubt, an obvious target for young apprentices out to meet all the warriors from other Clans. He wasn't the most social cat, so he didn't really go around trying to find conversations [ not that they were hard to find ] during the gathering, but he didn't turn his nose up at any that found his way to him, either. Not even if the cats who brought them happened to be the most obnoxious he had ever met in his entire life. When they arrived, after WindClan and before SkyClan, he breathed in the mixture of Clan scents with a straight face and walked right into the busy crowd. He found himself a seat where he could see the leaders, for now. He didn't pay much attention to who else was camped out around him, and he didn't listen to any of the conversations. He just let them buzz around him, as incoherent and unimportant as the hissing of a mosquito. 251 WORDS , GATHERING , NONE ©

Dacebelly didn't quite understand what was going on. He thought of himself as pretty clever -- even Sedgeclaw had to admit that, no matter how begrudging it might be -- but he couldn't quite fathom why Duckstar had chosen him of all cats to attend a Gathering. Dacebelly was well known for being hostile towards other Clans, and the only time he'd ever shown more than a cold shoulder to a cat from another Clan was during the last battle with BloodClan, a notable exception to normal life. He also didn't understand why Duckstar was adamant about them not mentioning their return to their own territory. Surely the other Clans would already know, given their stronger presence at their own borders? And surely it wouldn't matter to other Clans where they were currently living, other than perhaps being seen positively -- not occupying two territories anymore, and all that?

Regardless of his own feelings, though, Dacebelly wasn't flagrantly disobedient, and he'd follow Duckstar's orders, no matter what he thought of them. And, as Darterberry pointed out as she prepared to stay behind and guard the camp, his going was probably for Leechpaw's sake. She was a newly named apprentice and probably wouldn't be able to go without her mentor. So, as the Gathering party left, Dacebelly slowed his steps to stick near Leechpaw. As soon as they arrived, though, not long after WindClan, she split off to go join a group of other apprentices that was quickly assembling. Little Lotuspaw seemed to be the crux of the group, and Dacebelly had a bit of a chuckle thinking about just what would go on there. Letting Leechpaw go, Dacebelly went to go sit by Sedgeclaw, hoping his former mentor's grumpy face would keep other cats away from him long enough for the Gathering to happen and for them to be able to go home.

"Hare-chasers look awfully skeletal," Dacebelly said, tone sour for once as he exaggerated (but not completely). They were ones to talk, of course -- RiverClan had been the most severely affected by the sickness and the season, having to run to their territory just to eat and suffering the contamination of a great deal of their food supply.
